We Followed A London Tube Driver For A Day - Here's What It's Like

Business Insider joined a Bakerloo line driver on her daily routine driving a train on the London Underground. Jackie Moriarty has been a driver for 19 years. She told us the things she likes, dislikes, and has experienced while working for Transport for London. Being a Tube driver can be quite demanding, requiring long periods of concentration and many hours in isolation. However, perks do come with the job such as being able to travel free on TFL services.
Business Insider tells you all you need to know about business, finance, tech, science, retail, and more.

    • @Streets IsWatching They can't strike otherwise they're risking patient's lives so they have a moral obligation to work, whereas a train driver can strike and this will just delay transport.

    • Who's fault is that ? Maybe they need A stronger union ? 🤔🤔🤔

      Streets IsWatchingStreets IsWatchingHace 8 meses
  • Commenters here complaining that tube drivers get payed more than them &that they strike too much. They get payed a living wage because they have a strong union. If you had a strong union in your workplace you would also be making similar money to them. But you’re directing your anger at the wrong target.

  • It states 'most trains require little input from the driver', so why are they paid so much more than bus drivers who have to give 100 % input 100% of the time!

    Mary ChristmasMary ChristmasHace 9 meses
  • Why do you Brits keep complaining that tube drivers are overpaid?? It is comparable to other major cities. NYC subway drivers make around $75,000 USD. Some commuter railroads make about $95,000. People keep saying NHS nurse get paid less. Well then your nurses are underpaid not tube drivers overpaid. Nurses here make more than Subway drivers on average.

  • First image there. Queen’s Park. That’s a bloody nightmare. Every time trains stop there, before and after for about 10/15 min. The average journey for people living in zone 2/3 it’s a little more than half an hour. Plus the noise on the Bakerloo line Jesus. I shouldn’t watch this stuff when at home, it’s like PTSD or something. Now I need a whiskey!

    E AE AHace 10 meses
  • Some naive people in this comment section. 50 k a year is still absolutely peanuts in London. Why don’t you imbeciles go and vent your anger at the bankers and other white collar workers who whilst ripping plenty of the general public off are in some cases earning 50k per MONTH..! Leave these ordinary train drivers alone who are lets be honest on moderate wages for the capital.
